Stangeland, Katarina Zak; Huldt-Nystrøm, Theis; Li, Xiaotong; Danielsen, Kjersti (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-09-09)

    • Obesity and Staphylococcus aureus Nasal Colonization among Women and Men in a General Population

Olsen, Karina; Danielsen, Kjersti; Wilsgaard, Tom; Sangvik, Maria; Sollid, Johanna U. Ericson; Thune, Inger; Eggen, Anne Elise; Simonsen, Gunnar Skov; Furberg, Anne-Sofie (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2013)
Background: Obesity and diabetes mellitus (DM) have been linked to increased risk of infections, and Staphylococcus aureus nasal colonization is a major risk factor for developing infections with the microbe. We therefore sought to find whether body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) could be associated with S. aureus colonization independent of DM. Methodology: S. aureus colonization ...
    • Overweight and Weight Gain Predict Psoriasis Development in a Population-based Cohort

Danielsen, Kjersti; Wilsgaard, Tom; Olsen, Anne Olaug; Furberg, Anne-Sofie (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016-09-07)
Overweight is a proposed risk factor for psoriasis. However, evidence from prospective studies is limited. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between overweight, weight gain and risk of psoriasis, and potential synergism with smoking, within a population-based cohort including 8,752 individuals followed from 1994 up to 2008. There was a 32% increased odds of psoriasis from a ...

Optimal clinical management of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) Optimal clinical management of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) requires understanding of the impact on patients. The NORdic PAtient survey of Psoriasis and PsA (NORPAPP) aimed to obtain current data on disease prevalence and patient perceptions in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Among 22,050 individuals questioned, the reported ...
    • Psoriasis, overweight and metabolic syndrome. The Tromsø Study

Danielsen, Kjersti (Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2014-05-28)
Recently it has been suggested that the chronic inflammatory disease psoriasis is more than skin deep, as it has been associated with several comorbid conditions, including diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Increasing prevalence of psoriasis has been observed, possibly due to changes in lifestyle. Within the population-based Tromsø study cohort, we found an increase in the self-reported prevalence ...
    • Quality of life and contact with healthcare systems among patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis: results from the NORdic PAtient survey of Psoriasis and Psoriatic arthritis (NORPAPP)

To describe the impact of psoriasis on HRQoL and patients’ contact with the healthcare system in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway, the NORdic PAtient survey ...

Thus, we studied the association between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and S. aureus nasal colonization and carriage. Nasal swabs, blood samples and clinical data from 2,115 women and 1,674 men, aged 30–87 years, were collected in the Tromsø Staph and Skin Study 2007–08, as part of the ...
